5 of 6 people found the following review helpful.Just received Core's CHARGE IT charger today(Wed. 12-21-11), plug the CHARGE IT in and hook the positive clamp to the positive terminal of the discharged battery, and the negative clamp to the negative terminal... within 2-3 seconds heard a "Puff" sound and saw a puff of smoke emitting from the three small circular air vents of the CHARGE IT charger. I have had 20 plus years of experience in charging car batteries, therefore I'm confident that I had received a defective unit. I understand there's a relatively small percentage of products of the major, reputable brands can be defective(cause realistically, no company in human history had produced a 100% defective free line of products), however, I'm skeptical of ordering another Core CHARGE IT charger. Hope you guys and gals will have better luck than I did. Until there's a preponderance of positive testimonial reviews of Core CHARGE IT charger, I will remain dubious of the Core CHARGE IT charger. Wishing all of you the Best of Health, Joy, Peace & Happiness and a Very Merry Christmas, and a Spectacular New Year!!!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. This charger is very versatile, which I appreciate, but generally I just need a charger for my car battery. This charged my car battery just fine when I needed it, and didn't take particularly longer than any other charger I've used. I wish it had a built-in battery so that I could keep it in my car to charge if I necessary in the middle of nowhere, but this product doesn't do that. Also, I read the instructions and thought you might like to know that although the ad copy says it's good for boat batteries, it does say that if you want to use it for a marine battery you need to remove the battery from the boat and charge it on the ground, and it also says you'll need a booster cable for the negative (that's a safety issue). The instructions say that if you want to charge a boat battery without removing the battery you need to buy a special marine charger (which this one is not).

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.my 2 year old left the interior light on and that is the only light on the whole car that doesn't shut off after 15 minutes, so the next day i had a dead car.I bought this on a Sunday from my local car parts store, they closed at 12 and i went in at 12:20, so i was being rushed to get whatever i was going to get and leave. What i wanted was a box i could charge and then jump my car, but because i was rushed i paid $56 for this "charger" that was meticulously placed right next to a similar one that actually does have a jump battery built in, either way i found out real fast i had to find some make shift tools to get the battery out which had a metal J-Hook brace, a lot of plastic and plastic clips plus as a anti-theft measure a special hex nut with a "Key" whole, because i bought the car used this was not included with my car, so i ended up having to stab a screwdriver in the hole while also turning it with a pair of pliers while it was raining- because we had somewhere to be and couldn't miss it.It wasn't the chargers fault i was in a rush and had a car with that feature, it did however charge my battery from 0% on 2A to about 25% where i switched it to 6A til 40% and finally did a 45 minute charge of 12A, took about 2 hours to get it to 70% and i was able to start the car and get where i needed to go.
